I am getting ready to buy a modular and serge seems like a good route for what I do.. Cost as always is an issue so I was wondering, What would be the minimal about of preconfigured shop pannels that one could get away with that would give you a basic voice and basic processing capability? Since I am new to Serge I am not sure what does what so if anyone can help I would appreciate it. Thanks!

The Animal shop panel gives a complete voice including envelopes (DTG)
and semi-random control (SSG w/noise). Otherwise you would have to go
with a pair of panels, Blue Voice plus Blue Control or Red Voice plus
Red Control, or mix and match. The voice panel has the audio generating
and processing functions and the control panel generates envelopes,
LFOs, random waveforms, etc.

So true. This panel is one little power house! Only thing lacking in
it (due to space limitations) is a ring modulator. The DTG gives you
the option of having ASR and AD envelopes (that's all one really
needs), and the smooth generator can be used for portamento, as an
lfo or as an envelope generator for sweeping the wave multiplier or
the variable-shape wave in the NTO. Great stuff!

If it's ring mod type effects you want, try sending an audio oscillator
into the AM1 or AM2 inputs of the UAP. Not the same a ring modulation
but similar.
