sine, sine, everywhere a sine...

sine, sine, everywhere a sine...

2002-09-10 by John Papiewski

The sine wave question came up here recently didn't it?? Or wuz it AH??

NTO/PCO sine waves have tiny pips in them, or mine do. I can hear the
extra harmonics esp. in the lower registers.
This is annoying - if I want purity I have to filter them or make a sine
wave from the VCFQ.

Yet I know someone who has a fairly recent vintage Serge that makes nice
sines that don't seem to buzz.
Could this just be a power supply or waveshape adjustment thing?

Any opinions or observations?

Thx

JP

No pips in my 2002 vintage NTO. This is probably something that can be
adjusted with a trim pot. It doesn't have anything to do with the power
supply. I don't have any PCOs to measure.

My NTO sine does have a slight flattening/assymetry of the waveform, but
all waveshaped sines tend to exhibit this.

Dear John,
Ditto . My Serge oscillators have a very good sine output. This is a
model I ordered from '94 .Do you have multiple NTOs showing the same
deformity on the scope ?
