PS-2/Other Power Supply for Small Serge System...

PS-2/Other Power Supply for Small Serge System...

2002-07-11 by synpro@aol.com

Does anyone have the smaller Serge power supply that can power 2/3 panels? I am looking to build a small (2) panel portable system and would like to encllose the power supply iside the box which will have sufficient ventilation. The PS3 (?) is too big. Also, does anyone know of an alternative place to get a HIGH quality, physically smaller power supply for the Serge? I care not about 100% tracking since most of the insect and bleep noises I make would not notice. Thanks!

I recommend that you get a good legit power supply - even if you don't care about tracking NOW you might later. Also if you run the Serge for a prolonged period from PS not set to +/- 12v it would f*ck up the circuits --- a bad thing for resale value.
A power supply that is 'too big' might be expensive but it would work okay.

just my $.02

Thanks

My 0.2c is that there is a lot of hype about the Serge PSU's.
I've been powering 3 panels from a second hand +/- 12 supply my friendly
synth guru found for me. It was a whole lot cheaper than the STS PSU
(required to power 3 panels) and I'm sure I could have added more panels
without any technical or 'tracking' problems.
I'm not saying *don't* get an STS PSU, I'm just saying there are very good
and sometimes cheaper options out there.

Check out power-one supplies from digikey. They have
the HAD12-0.4-A which is a dual output +/-12 linear supply
that is popular in the DIY circles.
