Serge and digital mixers???

Serge and digital mixers???

2002-04-24 by DarkStr717@aol.com

Please forgive this post Blake but i was wondering if anyone on this list is
useing a Yamaha 02R for traking & mixing in their studio. Anyone??? is it up
to the task?? I have a chance to pick one up for about 3.5K (new). I'm scared
to death about this because I'm really old school when it comes to mixing as
i've never used anything but analog boards and i find digital mixers beyond
intimidating. Scrolling thru sub-menus seems nuts to me but everyone says
these things are very good. Some of my friends have 01v and 03ds and i get
nothing but grief from these guys 'cause i'm such a Ludite. I guess i'm the
type that needs to dragged kicking and screaming into the digital age. So if
anyone is useing this beast, please let me know what you think and share your
experience with me if you have the time.
Once again please forgive the off topic post but i didn't want to get info
from just your regular rock&roll studio guys.
Kind regards
John DuVal

I use a Panasonic/Ramsa WDA7 and am more than happy with it.
It is way more mixer than I need, but it works extremely well for
all my needs. Can't imagine you'd have any particular grief from
the 02R plus Serge -- not that I'm real familiar with the 02R and
it's issues, if any ;-)
As to why I went digital, it was to accomodate the mix of analog and
digital gear in my setup, and to facilitate recording to hard disk via
lightpipe (to my MOTU 2408 on the Mac or Frontier WaveCenter on
the PC). I did not need, nor do I use, the fancy automation features;
they're icing on the cake, and I'm still eating cake ;-)

cheers,
Bill
