Re: TKB only random! PROBLEM

2013-10-08 by Fernando Zarone

But with that blue jack it does not work… could it be a problem of TKB calibration or is it normal behavior?

Using the DTG gate gives strong pulses with nice square edges, more reliable to trigger on. Blue jack gives soft-sided control voltage signal, although you can change that by adjusting rise & fall times to a minimum. No reason for embarassment - It's just a different technique!

Yes, after using red GATE OUT jack it works ok… IS that the proper connection? You are really the king of TKBs… :-)
Last, can you suggest a good replacement of the silver switch for >> << ? it has been knocked when the TKB had been dropped

Grazie!

Hi Fernando,

That is bad news, but I think we can get it fixed.

First, make sure the signal from the DTG is coming from a red Gate out jack instead of the blue CV out jack. Sometimes the CV signal gives random operation but the gate always give a clean transition.

The next thing to do is to make sure all ICs and ribbon cables are firmly seated in their sockets.

There is a good chance that the setting of the SENS trimmer was knocked out on impact, so you might want to try adjusting that to see if you get better operation. Don't worry about messing anything up for now. I can coach you through proper adjustment later.

If none of the above works, can you send me some high resolution pictures of the PCB and rear panel wiring? I have diagnosed TKB faults from photos before, so we might get lucky.
