As some of you kindly suggested on this list, I bought several Johnson brand stackable
banana plugs, Mouser part number 530-108-1083-1.
Now that I have them in my hands, I'm not sure whether these are meant for solder
connections or not, or how to open up the plugs later should that become necessary. The
plug covers don't screw on and off, they simply click into place.
Is one supposed to solder the cable to the plug, or fix it otherwise? Would you run the
cable through the sideways hole first, and then try to make the solder connection at the
side of the plug somehow?
Is there a way to open up the finished plug once the plastic cap is clicked into place
without damaging the parts somehow, so I can use the plug again with a different kind of
cable, in case I decide to do so?
I will be using these to make a cable-snake with 32 banana plugs on one end, and a 32-
pin D-sub connector on the other end. About three feet of cable in between. Even though
the connections aren't grounded (banana to 1 of 32 pins on the D-sub) would it make
sense to use shielded cable here?
What's the benefit of using shielded cable when nothing is actually connected to the
shield?
