What you're after is a partial-cycle retriggerable AR, which the DSG is
not. Once triggered it will do a full attack-decay cycle. After the
cycle is complete you can trigger it again but attempts to trigger it
before the decay is over have no effect. That's the 'erratic' behavior
you mentioned earlier.

Just set the attack/decay times a little faster than your fastest tempo
for percussive AR envelopes. I do it all the time. While you're at it
don't forget to explore the interesting effects feeding the output back
into the CV input has for sharper or duller percussion.
