All about the Roland Jupiter-series

The small switch determines which side of the split MIDI will be sent
to if you have it in split mode.
Up position MIDI will play the upper part.
Down position MIDI will play the lower part.

About the memory one thing you could look at doing if you don't move
your Jupiter around would be to install a wallwart transformer that
would supply the proper voltage instead of the battery.
Keeping your Jupiter 8 on 24/7 really would not be an option since the
heat generated by it would surely lessen the life span of all the other
components.

You could also save your patches to a DAW instead of a tape.
This makes a great way to backup your patches as a wav file.

You might also want to get a second opinion about wether the memory
block can be repaired.
