Using Epson 4800 curves for R1800

Using Epson 4800 curves for R1800

2007-06-14 by mdhill60_1960

I'm interested in trying K7 inks on some other papers I have such as
Ilford Gallarie Smooth Gloss, Hahnemuhle Fine Art Pearl, etc but
either no curves exist, or the ones that do are for the 4800 or R1800
with Epson inks.

I know I'll have to tweak the curves, but how far off will they be?
Am I better off if I just start from scratch?

Both of the papers you mention are glossy and are therefore not suitable for
the K7 inks at the moment whatever curves you use. As a general point you
always have to use curves specific to your printer and inkset simply because
ink colours and positions change with each setup. However once the printer
and inkset are defined you can often use curves for one type of paper with
another one providing they have similar characteristics. With any curves
other than the K7 ones (which aren't user editable) I have gotten good
results from new papers simply by choosing a curve for a similar paper
(glossy or matt) and then running the linearisation step rather than
starting from scratch.
