Re: Matte paper scraped by printhead

2007-03-13 by mattchapin2

Hi Roy,

This is a problem I have had with Epson HW Matte as well. The print
head scrapes the paper and scratches the ink right off - so the
scratches are spaced at 1 per print head pass across the paper.

This seems to be caused because the Epson HW Matte paper swells a
bit when it is saturated with ink... and this paper is VERY easy to
saturate with ink.

Since HW Matte paper is thin, it does not exhibit the usual "thick
paper" problem of the print head knocking against the edge of the
page at the beginning or end. But the swelling is a problem.

Using the Epson driver, I have resolved this issue by using
the "thick paper and envelopes" setting.

On account of this problem (most paper is either too thick, or thin
enough but swells up) I have definitely had trouble finding matte
paper that does not require the "thick paper and envelopes" setting
for the R800.

Has anyone else had any luck?

Thanks!

Matt
