model 13 : I really like it

model 13 : I really like it

2007-05-15 by bellenger_a

Hello,

just got model 13 yesterday from MESI in Paris
and I really love the module, really actually does what I was expecting... and hoping
I like this particular very percussive sound... and the crossfade sum knob

just make me feel like it would be nice to have more Plan B modules at MESI... I just got
the model 13 which they had in their system... and appart from that they only have a
model 17 but nothing else...

anyway, very happy of my first Plan B module,

Best,

Alexandre

I like M13 too.

Although I wonder, why the VC inputs are so sensitive. I just tested
Gate 1 of my unit: It tops at 4.3V. This often necessitates attenuation
of the CV signal. (I would gladly change the offset controls to VC
input attenuators.)

Also, the amp only mode is much quieter, than other modes.

Best regards

You will notice two trim pots on the M13 PCB. To make the inputs less
sensitive, just back those down. The upper trimmer is for the upper
gate, the lower trimmer is for the power gate.

As far the amp mode - this is a function of the beast. Some of what
you're hearing is no filtering, as that amplifies certain frequencies,
and the other is the energy drop through the circuit by bypassing the
FET tha drives the sallen-key filter inside.

What is with me and typing?

Have you ever noticed I usually screwup the money words? All the
and's, but's, if you's are OK, then I come to the part of the exact
location of the problem and it's at the sispo sjsiu wwiwoim, and I
send that without proofing. It's uncanny.

Anyway, I meant the LOWER gate, not the POWER gate (below):

Hello,

I have a problem with my model 13 now in fact.

Since few days ago, when offset is completely turned off (zero), with no CV in, I still get
sound coming through (whatever source is, vco, noise...) and quite loud.

Its happening with both of the gates, but its more serious with the upper one?

Any idea that could help...

Best,

Alexandre

Re: model 13 : I really like it

The model 13 bleeds-it's the nature of vactrols (they only close down
to about 800 ohms), but this is really faint - no more than 1 mv. I
have found an alternate manufacturer of vac's which go down
cosiderably lower - 300 ohms and may be switching over in the future,
but if it's loud, as in LOUD, as in it doesn't close down at all- then
it sounds like your power cable has come loose inside the cabinet
somewhere. When not powered up, signals pass through the Model 13
like it wasn't even there.

If that isn't it, could you upload an audio file so we could here the
problem you're having.

We shipped over 50 or so of these, one has come back for repair. They are pretty sturdy circuits. They won't even blow if you connect the power backwards.

thanks-

- P

Dear Peter, thanks for yr quick answer,

So, yes... I'm gonna make an audio file as soon as possible... I'm not really expert with
computer but... I'm gonna find out how to...

Best,

Alexandre

Will it be possible to put those vactrols to old units? I could use
less bleeding.

I wonder, how other people are using the offset knobs? Mine stay at
full counterclockwise all the time.

(Also, I have yet to use the mix function and mode switches are
at "both" 90% of the thime. In other words, merely 6 jacks get the job
done here. I am considering a second M13 to get 4 LPG:s, but one quad
LPG unit with some saved space would suit me better. Then the mix
function would make more sense too in my opinion.)
