Model 17 question

Model 17 question

2006-10-29 by rafe127

Hi,
I've never used a comparator before. I was wondering if it could be
used to extract gate signals from a drum machine's audio signal. I
guess they'd be shorter, probably more like trigger signals or
whatever, you get the idea. Could the Model 17 be used for this?
Anybody actually done this?

Thanks,

Rafael

Hi Rafael,

Remember the Model 17 gates and triggers are dependent on amplitude of the incoming
signal. If the if the signal you wished to extract from the drum machine happened to have
the greatest amplitude, you would be set. Otherwise you would need a real good eq
before the model 17 to isolate the sound and then feed it into the Model 17.

Also, The model 17 outputs both gates and triggers. Gates from the Q and Qnot outputs
and Triggers from the Sum and Sumnot outputs. Also, remember the difference between
X and Xnot outputs is a 90 phase difference (X goes high with a signal while Xnot goes low
with a signal).
