Plan B Model10 Polyphonic Envelope

Plan B Model10 Polyphonic Envelope

2006-05-06 by Peter Grenader

Yo to all.

Over the past few weeks, the EAR consortium folk have been busily developing
a custom performance system for a band some of you may have heard of - their
acronym being very close to the number which falls between 8 and 10.

While this instrument was being conceived, it was obvious that some product
development would be required as essential components from what we
considered to be a complete system were missing from our stable.

Not all of these new devices will be released to market as they are highly
specialized, not so much in function but more due to their
configuration...but many will be released, and I I'm happy to announce that
the first of these - The Plan B Polyphonic Envelope.

Polyphonic? whu?

Go here to have a look:

http://www.ear-group.com/model_10.html

The Model 10 should be available at our dealers in about a month's time,
therebouts.

Keep your eyes on the EAR site over the next couple of weeks as more devices
born from this development effort are brought to market...especially from
the Livewire line.

More Plan B News:

Quick updates on other Plan B new product development efforts - The Model 14
Dual Processor should be available in three or so weeks The PCBs are in, as
are the components, we are waitng for faceplates. The Model 16 Spectral
Multiplexer and Model 23 Analog Shift Register are in the PCB design stage -
prototype designs for both have been finalized. The Model 18 Milton's -
steady progress is being made in the programming - this instrument is on
time for an early summer release - pots and tactile switch have been ordered
(many), with the Model 16 Output Processor will be coming quickly after
that.

Please do not respond to this email directly as I cannot read mail sent to
this account. However, feel free to contact me at the address listed below.

best,

- P

...for any of to willing to read down that far, there is a soundbyte of the
M10 in action on the EAR site Model 10 feature page

Peter, the Model 10 really, really looks great! Just the kind of
thing I'm looking for..

..multiple modulation sources from a single "action" so that complex
events can happen in direct time-relation to each other and without
having to use a sequencer to make it happen.

sign me up!

Peter:

It is fine and dandy that you guys are keeping yourselves busy with
new model designs and what not, but I also think you should devote
equal amounts of effort (or more) to finishing and shipping modules
to your customers, especially those of us who placed orders more
than one year ago!!
I personally would never again consider ordering anything from you
(no matter how fancy you describe it to be) unless I see delivery of
the stuff I ordered (and paid in full!) in March of 2005.

Re: Plan B Model10 Polyphonic Envelope

2006-05-07 by (i think you can figure that out)

I find it very interesting that you're calling something a clone that
you have not seen. The Serge Dual Slope Generator is a voltage
follower/slew limiter which has the internal patching to double as
a EG. My unit is based on my VCO circuit. It is non-retriggerable
- a true A/R generator.

But in regards to your comparison- where's the dedicated saw
output on 'your' Serge VCS? Where is the End of Attack pulse
out? The Timebase controls? The tri-mode contour control?
The external cycle enable input? Can the SergeVCS pul 20
minute cycles form faceplate settings alone? In any event, what
you're calling a clone here is nothing more than a partial list
functional similarities at best.

But actually, you're right. The Model 10 is a clone...of the Model
15 VCO core with a whole slew (pardon the pun) of changes -
switchable instead of hardwired reset into the flyback , fixed
symmetry current regulation resistors replaced with pots,
internal self freq VC used for contour bending, an adaptation of
sawtooth shaper used for the ramp out.

Re: Plan B Model10 Polyphonic Envelope

2006-05-08 by (i think you can figure that out)

The 62's are hard to get unless you purchase 500 as they need
to order them from Cliff UK. We have only 200, need to hold on
to all of them as they are required for fit reasons on the Model 14.

As a sub, we've been using the 82's as they are in stock at Cliff
USA. ten cents more per part, but we get them in 3 days, we can
order in lots of 100, don't have to waiit six weeks for the custom
order on the 62's and no 500 piece lot minimum.

I'm about to place another order on the 82 this week, write me
at the ear address (peter at ear-group dot com) if you want to go
in on this deal.
