My Model 11 Feedback

2007-10-16 by analogassailant

Well as mentioned on the Plan B site the filter can get aggressive but
still remains musical, by that I mean it's grungy and gnarly sounding
not shrieky and irritating, others have described it as "tube like"
and I feel that's an accurate description. Of course warm washy sweeps
can be had if one tones down on the FM and feedback.

Speaking of FM this is such a great feature to have (the only other
filter I own that has this is the Sherman filter bank) as it really
opens up the timbre possibilities from just being a `typical' bandpass
sound. Cranking the FM knob up with my source material produced a nice
chunky "burnt watery" sound…lol…I know what the hell does that mean
right? Well just try it you'll like it, slam everything you can into it.

I am a huge fan of bandpass filters and I have quite a few (dedicated
and multi) from various manufacturers and I have found that I
gravitate towards the ones with vactrols in them. Most bandpass
filters are clones of the Korg PS-3100 to some extent and I can safely
say that the model 11 stands on its own as being quite unique both in
features and sound. Indeed the model 11 is in a dimension of its own
when compared to its brother, the Model 12's bandpass, that I have
sitting right beside it.

I think I will stop here since I have only spent the day with it but I
thought I would share my initial impression as a nudge for those who
might be on the fence about purchasing one.
