Muse have a 'Tron, I believe.

We share a publisher with them, and we're always being told what great
musicians they are. That may be the case, but they always strike me as
a cheap Radiohead copy, and just as depressing.

They used one on their first album, 'Showbiz' - the one with the tacky cover. :-)

That was AWSOME Mike!!!
Two or three layers of choir / 3v's / Brass ? I've never heard the
original track. Is it lame without the tron ?

Glad you liked it so much. It's two brass, one strings (albeit recorded
in two parts) and one choir. Oh, and some non-Tron church organ.

No, it's actually quite good as long as you can stand the singer's
voice.

I had to paste the URL it into a word processor, edit it into one
string, then paste it into my browser. Worth doing tho. It's a great
track.

Bloody great!

Now if they sounded like that all the time, I'd be buying their albums!

Send me a hi-fi mp3 if you like and I'll send Bellamy a copy to see if
he likes it!!

pinch roller maintenence

2006-11-30 by fdoddy@aol.com

So I actually had a day off where I could putter and I finally got around to working on my pinch rollers. I rigged a rubber wheel (capstan) on to my electric drill to spin the rollers while I hit them with some 600 grit emory and took the cup out of my rollers as well as give em a little tooth, then hit em with some rubber rejuvenator (the kind used for typewriter platens) and now those suckers grab tape like their life depended on it. Did a pad and roller readjust (naturally as the rollers are a new diameter) No wobblies and notes are clear and true to the end. What a difference!

velly klever flitz.
but can vee get you to reveel more?

would that [rubber rejuvenator] be something like this stuff?:
http://www.fixyourownprinter.com/specials/misc/chemicals/S03

do you have a brand/product name/source?

come to think of it...
i have a friend in copier repair [he works for canon] - i bet he
can get some good stuff for me if i tell him what i need it for.

great tip fritz.
and glad you had a day off!

i just spent the past week rewiring/reconfiguring my entire studio.
amazing how many unused cables had crept into it, along with cables
that were 3 or 4 times longer than they needed to be... eeesh.
it was a huge job, but should be worth it...

Hello Fritz,

It sounds like you ground those down a bit. I've only removed the
edges and scruffed them up (and then applied the rejuvenator).

I've used the flywheel to spin up the rollers in my machines to
accomplish this type of work, which probably a bit lighter than what you did.

I should have added: Not that there's anything wrong with that. I'd
be concerned about not letting them go out of round if taking a bit
off of them, so it's great to hear that you have found a way to bring
these suckers back to really decent shape so they play well!

Did you have to do anything to any of them so they spin more freely?

While I wouldn’t want to grind my Chamberlin rollers because they ought to stay “broad-shouldered” to exert an even pull for across the tracks, I am interested in the notion of “conditioning” the rubber to make them softer and “grippier”. What do you use and how do you apply it? Must one be extra careful to avoid getting this on the axle?

Mine weren't broad shouldered, they just had shoulders. In other words, they were cupped so there wasn't much surface area. Conditioning the rubber would have certainly been an improvement, but the ever-sofine grinding, and I mean fine. really did the trick. Tough to do in a Chamby I know. I forget the brand of mine, but I'll look once I'm home. Simple google search is all I did.
