Maelstrom (american band) Mellotronist

Maelstrom (american band) Mellotronist

2006-11-16 by mellotronko

Hi all, I just came across this site and joined. I played the keys for
the 1970's american band Maelstrom. I bought my mellotron in 1973, in
Salem, Indiana at Kramer"s Music Store. Mr. Kramer had no idea what a
mello was, but he ordered it and 3 weeks later we drove down and picked
it up. I still have it!!They really were a pain in the ass to maintain,
but, it was an incredible feeling when you could fill a building with
sound. Mike Pinder stated that playing a mellotron was like " riding a
rocket". I'm sure you all have had similiar experiences. When you have
a PA that cranking a couple thousand watts and you can bring the sound
from the nebulous to the supreme is really another form of an erection.
Well thank you for allowing me to introduce myself. I don't do this
much since I'm a semi-recluse living on the top of a mountain.

Sincerely, mellotronko/

welcome aboard.
i would guess from the date you bought your machine that it's an m400?

do you know the serial number?
[it's on just about every major part inside]

what sounds/tapes do you have in it?

has it been updated/upgraded in any way?
[new motor card etc? new tapes?]

and... what mountain do you live on top of?
that's really cool!

best,
jeff

Yep...I still have that Rolling Stone interview where he said that.

Jeff, Frank, Jim & Janet: Several days ago I wrote a lengthy
reply for explanation of tape updates. It's a great story (9
paragraphs) but have not seen any trace of it. Could you explain to
me how to just keep a thread going. I'm not too computer literate.
Kent.

Well I'm certainly no expert...but until the experts chime in - I'll give it a whirl.
Sometimes posting messages to a forum or group is like casting a lure in a pond, sometimes you hook up, sometimes you get nothing, sometimes you pop the line and loose the lure and all.
Go to your "messages sent" area in your computer....see if it did show as a sent message to this group - or to an individual.
What date did you post?
Did it show as a message sent, or is it still in your "outbox", clogged due to interupted service?
(usually they'll go out - once you are online again and if your program checks for all outgoing mail).
Check your messages in your inbox...did you get any failed delivery notices that match your missing message?
Also, you may need to check the addresses on the outgoing email in the sent box...make sure you sent it to this group, esp if you drafted the text in a Word document and cut and pasted it in the body of your email.
If you meant to send it as an attached document, that may be the source of the problem....I get emails with no attachments everyday at work by people thinking they sent me a message but they never attached one..
Finally, I don't know what size limits there are here, but many user groups limit the size of an email esp. with pictures. graphics and such.

Kent:
You may want to check and see how you reply to emails, do you hit "reply to sender" or "reply to all"...
....check to see that he title of the email message you sent has this word in it, in brackets exactly like this:
[Mellotronists]
People who like Forums and Users groups will often set up their inboxes to seperate out the "user group" related email in this manner, so it doesn't get lost in all the usual daily email traffic, spam etc.
I checked my inbox in my computer..didn't see anything from "Kent" or your other name "mellotronko@..." floating around....
Haven't checked my wife's computer yet to see if it intercepted any messages from you before I got them...(you're not talking to my wife are you....? )

also note that this list [UNLIKE EVERY OTHER LIST I HAVE EVER BEEN ON {cough cough}]
defaults to replying to the sender, NOT THE LIST. most of us dislike this behaviour.
so you have to specifially and deliberately put the list address in your response. [PITA]
...but it's the moderator's mistake, um, i mean choice ;) not ours...

you can also check the group's website to see if it turns up there.
you also need to make sure your ISP is not rejecting the messages,
as yahoo groups turns up on blocklists [specifically spamcop's] from
time to time, but list traffic has been getting to me, so it's not
on spamcop's blocklist right now... are you getting all the messages
that show up on the list website? if not, check you profile for bounces.

oh, and sorry we missed you response... looking forward to it no matter
how long it takes to arrive! jeff

Sorry Kent, but obviously what you wanted to post was deemed not worthy by the Internet itself. Try again. We have great hopes for you. Maybe one day we'll receive one of your posts and we'll all have a party.
As I recall, 8 paragraphs may be the limit for banal posts. Let me check.
