Rick's book

Rick's book

2006-10-30 by Daniel Miso

I'll get mine Nov. 9 at the book signing AND get to hear his MKII SFX!

I have 'Shooting Straight in the Dark' too. That musical aside about
setting a Strat's strings higher for better tone doesn't work for my
Ham Hands though...I'm always back to my low and slinky fretless wonder.

Daniel
1167 (new rollers coming from TRONBROS!)
E4/7600s (already has new rollers and new SMS2-the 17th best EMI in the
         world...)

Dan is referring to a comment I made about the fact that the protagonist in this novel (a blind, female guitarist!) studied with a very famous teacher and player in the NY area where I grew up. Quite frankly, he was the best guitarist I've ever heard: Linc Chamberland and I decided I'd like to pay a little homage to him in my book.

He had a grip like a steel vise. No one (unless they did the same thing to their guitar and practised for a long time) could ever play his Telecaster! Raising the strings like this did give a remarkably clear sound, though, quite unlike anything else I've ever heard. If you want to hear a good example of Linc's playing check this out:

The MP3 on the page should begin automatically. This tune ("The Cat's Meow") is pretty well "direct off the floor" since Linc "wrote" the tune on the way to the studio. The band rehearsed it twice and ran tape. Pretty impressive for 1964, I'd say! On the bottom of this page is a photo of the guitar Linc used on the recording:

There's a lot of other information about Linc Chamberland and his band, The Orchids, on my website if anyone is interested.

Rick

PS And no, I didn't pay Frank Stickle to say those very complimentary things about my book!

I enjoyed the flash presentation for your new album. Sounds like it
might be a lot of fun. Time to go visit Amazon/B&N.com

I'll be there too, Dan. Haven't seen ya since the "Shooting..." release
(unless you were at the "Cemetary of the Nameless" event and I didn't
notice). I hope to be accompanied by my new lady companion Vanda, plus
a few other friends.

With luck it should be a mob scene. I pity those of you who can't be
there.
