Mellotrons and John Medeski

If you want to hear two pieces that are the most powerful and intelligent
mellotron driven pieces, go to _medeskimartinandwood.com_
(http://medeskimartinandwood.com) and listen to World End Party and Anonymous Skulls, both under
Music on the homepage. This is seriously good stuff. John is a monster
mellotron player. When he came to visit, he attacked a MKI like he'd known it
for years but had actually never played one before. Instinctively he sorted
out the R+F's and jammed along to them. Mind boggling.

John's a good guy---and awesomely talented, as you noticed.

Did he insist on taking the lid off and doing pitch dives? And when
he did, did he make mention that the flywheel is on the wrong
side? :-) I hope you got the chance to see MMW (or MSMW) while they
were in the area, Martin.

A MONEYPIT report featuring Mr. Medeski's M400 is here:

(And on other MONEYPIT news...This past weekend MONEYPIT unveiled a
restored Mark II once owned by a former Moody Blues keyboard player
and a Mark V once owned by another former Moody Blues keyboard
player. It'll take me a little while to sort through the photos and
get a report kicked together--stay tuned.)

Hi !

Did he insist on taking the lid off and doing pitch dives? And when
he did, did he make mention that the flywheel is on the wrong
side? :-)

Some years ago, Medeski Martin and Wood have played in Paris.
They hired the vintage keyboards (Hammond, Clavinet... ) but no chance to have a Mellotron (surprising ?).
One day before the show, their manager contacted me about the mellotron (he saw my web site) and finally, John Medeski played my dear M400 on stage.
And yes, he took the lid off and did pitch dives !
Great performance !

Cheers,

David C.
