Allen Electric Harpsichord...

Allen Electric Harpsichord...

2006-08-01 by Jack Younger

Hello All!
It's been quite some time since I've posted here
as we've just completed our big studio expansion.
This is somewhat un-mellotron related, but, during
construction, I purchased a vintage Allen Electric
Harpsichord. Very cool-sounding, probably the best
transistor-based analog harpsichord I've ever heard.
Far more realistic and flexible than the RMI, with a
lovely piano-grade wood cabinet, reverse keys and a
crazy six-speaker amp system. Just curious if anybody
on here has;
a.) heard of such a beast
b.) owns one
c.) has a set of schematics
I've contacted the Allen organ co. and they have
nothing on the unit anymore. It works very well, I'm
just anticipating future repairs so any info would be
helpful.
Thanks for your time.
Cheers!
-Jack Younger EMI103S (The Bastard 'Tron, playing
nicely with Allen)

Too cool! They had one at one of the colleges I attended in upstate New
York, and I loved it. I even got to use it onstage one time for a
performance. That one got a lot of use and as far as I know, for at least a
few years had no problems at all. That's about all I can provide...
