Midi files can be opened with Midi sequencer software like Cakewalk. Mellotron notes / chords are usually found in one or two of the 16 channels. Use the "staff view" to see or print sheet music. If you can't read music, use the "piano roll" view. If you don't have Midi software, Cakewalk - MusicCreator is only $40 http://www.cakewalk.com/Products/MusicCreator/default.asp There are probably free midi tools available as well. < anyone know? As an aside, with respect to Genesis midi files, has anyone ever had a crack at midi-filing "The Light"? Likely to be quite a tricky one to do, I know, even after you've imported bits from all the stuff they picked out of it.

Hi again,
Thanks for the good MIDI info so far.... What I can get by
with is chords for songs & tunes (like mentioned below) but just
the letters... So, for example the 'Tron chords for "Watcher" are
(I don't know em) I haven't even found guitar tabs for it, but some
guitar tabs might have them...(BTW I know Hackett has some of his
music available in written form... anyhow).
For example if the chord progression was something like;
A B A C A B (pardon the pun ;)
Then I can go here and find the right chords..(this is a cool link
for keys).
http://www.pianoworld.com/fun/vpc/piano_chords.htm
And then try to play 'em... :)
Cheers,

Careful, Clay - you're entering Genesis \ufffdber-nerd territory... :-) 'The Light' was an early piece, played live in '71, later rifled for 'Lilywhite Lilith'. Available on the La Ferme, Belgium, 7th March '71 bootleg. Good but not a classic. Andy T.

Andy, Maybe he's referring to Spock's Beard's "The Light"? Pete Andy Thompson wrote:

Ugh, god, no. I really don't like Spock's Beard. I was referring to the poor little orphaned Genesis track, the only known recording of which I have as part of the "hogweeds" set of remastered live boots. I stripped the track out of the CD and bunged it into "Cubase", intending to work on it myself, I thought it would be a larf to play it live, especially to a progressive-orientated crowd, if only to see the look of appalled recognition on the faces of, I dunno, 2 people. But, as anyone who's heard it knows, even in the remastered version (& comparing this to the previously available version, the guy who did it worked a miracle on it), the sound quality is really, really, really bad. wtfe, anyway. Is there a recording of "Moss", from the same era out there, does anyone know? best etc.

I've discovered something . the watcher of the skies intro is hugely inspired ( like that I don't say it's a ripoff and the myth is safe ... ) by WAGNER siegfried ( prelude of ACT III ) . it's very obvious

The prelude to Act One has the same feel and it has a rhythm near the end that is similar to the Watcher Of The Skies "morse code" rhythm. I'm sure that Richard Wagner would have loved the mellotron brass sound. Clay
