Definite highlights for me would be."Teacher I need you" on Don't shoot me
I'm only the piano player. The brass on "Dirty little girls" is a gem,
together with "This song has no title","Grey seal" and of course the title
track from Goodbye yellow brick road, all fantastic!

Wasn't there a Mellotron flute on Daniel also? I think the Elt had an EMI built teak-finish 400. Aidan

Hi Aidan and gang, There most certainly was lots of Tron flute on "Daniel" by Sir
EJ.
In fact, Paul Anka (of all people) imitated that style of Tron flutes on his
single
"You're Having My Baby " . While not a Mellotron Moment, Anka's use of Tron is
still
one for the Album list....As was Neil Diamond......Cheers,Jerry Korb and
entourage....

(P.S:) I like the girl whose photo appears on the eDiets advert on Yahoo
Sponsor.....JK)

Check out the tron use (MkV) on the Jonathan Livingston Seagull track on "Love at the Greek" -- choir, strings -- gorgeous and tasty use; raises goosebumps.

Re: Elton Tron

How about the flute solo on "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds"?

Funny how these things go in circles. Back in March `99 the
subject of
Mellotron Greatest Hits was being discussed. The subject of the
flute on Daniel came up and the following was posted to the list
by Brian Kehew, who unfortunately is no longer on the list.

I remember this incident because I was so devastated to discover
that the wonderful Daniel flute was not Tron! But there is lots
of other good use of Tron on EJ's early works. The flute solo on
Lucy in the Sky is great. Thanks for pointing it out Rick. Sounds
like Mk II to me as opposed to most of his other stuff which I
have always assumed was M400.

Geez, two posts in two days!

Not to beat a dead horse about the flutes on "Daniel", but I just asked Brian
Kehew about them (today) and here's his response:

>"Daniel" - Ken Scott - who played it - says it was the ARP, he's very proud >
of that patch and the patch he made for sax sounds on "Suffragette City". >Be
aware that its an ARP modular, and not just an Odyssey. He could >program
breaths and randomenss into it...

This is pretty much what he reported earlier (below), with the addition of
the programming for breaths and randomness.
