Not only that, but making a mellotron this small, the sounds would last
like what? .05 seconds?

What the hell good is that?

Make the tapes run slower, of course. Doh! Although you'd have to play them with toothpicks, and... OK, pretend I didn't say anything.

Yeah, but if everything is to scale, tiny Rick could play "And You and I" in about 10 seconds.

For whom? Me or Wakeman? Personally, I always thought he should be
called Wake Rickman...

Well you'd get that tortuously awful rubbish over and done with in less
time for one thing.

That's what I like about you, Mike. You always find a way to put a positive
spin on things.

San Francisco

Hi guys,
As I'm coming to San Francisco in January, I wonder if the ones who live there, could point me stores where I could buy cds, posters, memorabilia about Progressive, and '60s & '70s rock bands and singers. Thank you.

Renato,

Y'r humble Mellotronists list manager also created and maintains the
BayProg site, which attempts to document every resource the San
Francisco Bay Area progressive rock musician or fan could possibly
need. Concerts, bands, music stores, record stores, venues, radio,
instrument builders, instrument repair, web sites, etc.

don't live there but have been there a few times.

amoeba records USED to be THE place for records in SF.
as far as i know they are still in business.

yup - 3 locations:
http://www.amoebamusic.com/html/modules.php?name=Amoeba_Home&op=home

i have been to the one on telegraph, but that was a few years ago.
i remember some of the prices being outrageous, and others being
a good bargain - no rhyme or reason that i could figure out.

there was also another place on haight but i can't remember the
name off the top of my head... my nephew lived a block off of
haight unitl about a year ago - i'll ask him and get back to you.

Amoeba records is on Haight near Stanyan - Upper Haight,
close to Golden Gate park.

Yeup - a boatload of records, but fairly picked over. I
think recent arrivals are brought in on Tuesdays.

There's another decent store on Divisadero and Haight, Open
Mind Music. Not as popular but you can find some gems.
There's another spot on Haight street, around Baker or so -
close to the Anarchistic Book collective. Can't remember the
name, but I've had some luck there.

Near Union Square on Powell street (about a block from the
big cable car turn-table) you'll find Rasputin's. I've not
purchased much vinyl there, but they do seem to stock some
decent stuff.

You'll also come across a bunch of homeless people selling
whatever they found in the garbage or stole from a car. A
short glance at their wares can make one man's tragedy
another man's treasure.

If you want to dig, you can check out the thrift shop on
Valencia, around 20th or 21st. Its close to the Elbo room on
Valencia.

If you want to check out any shows, check out the flyers on
the lightpoles in Upper & Lower Haight, Mission District, and
South of Market. The weekly mags are ok - but they generally
feature artists becuase of their 'hipster' status and not for
any musical ability.

Have fun - hopefully the never-ending winter drizzle won't
rain on your trip. Feel free to email me privately if you
have any other questions.
