"the inside of the case still smells like an old man" - when I read
that on his website, I laughed my insides out.

Come to think of it, downstairs in the basement of the radio station
are a handful of old audio consoles left over from the post art
deco/bakelite era I'd love to see converted into some kind of homemade
synth/noizemaker. I'd make one with lots of stove/oven styled pointer
knobs and those kinds of meters that look like the cover of King
Crimson's "Red" album...y'know a Jules Verne meets Thomas Dolby kind
of creation.

(I also love his Puerto Rican color scheme.)

that gizmo got me thinking...could a keyboard be designed that would play tracks directly from a CD or DVD? The disc would have tracks corresponding to each key on the keyboard with sounds lasting...say one minute or more so for a 76 note keyboard you'd have a CD with 76 one minute tracks.....each key would activate the laser to read it's specific track. There could be many many discs for sound library...and man CDs are cheap a CD/DVD Orchestron!! with no ram/rom to worry about

the problem with that is:
a cd player only has a single laser to read with.
therefore, it could only read one track at a time.

you might be able to use buffers, but you are now getting into the
hardware driver writing arena... and RAM issues.

maybe a "DJ" cd player/mixer might have some of this capability?
