Mellotron Mk V

Mellotron Mk V

2005-10-13 by fizzyal

I have what I think is a Mellotron Mk V (Double Console, Black stand
up cabinet). It originally belonged to Oscar Petersen, Canadian Jazz
keyboard player/composer, (it has 3 original racks of tapes, in
addition to the two already in the machine, in their cases with
delivery tags from London bearing his name attached)- but passed
through the hands of Hugh Syme (keyboard player for Max Webster) and
finally ended up with me.

Wondering about sources for enthusiasts groups and possible value of
the instrument.

Possible value?
I'd say it'll cost you at least 10 more grand before you're done with it...
;-)

Value????

It has no value. It's worthless.
I'll take it off your hands for fifty bucks cash.

Okay, one hundred.

But respond quickly; this offer won't last long!!!!

Best,
Mark B.

Congrats! It is absolutely a Mark V, and you've just cleared up a 'Mellotron
query' for me re.Oscar Peterson. NOW - what the hell did he play it on? Oh,
and to my knowledge, Hugh Syme never played keys for the Maxes - that was
Terry Watkinson. Syme *did* play Mellotron on Rush's 'Tears' from '2112',
though.

Hugh Syme played keyboards in Ian Thomas Band in the late 70's. He
did most of the album cover art for Max W and Rush (and many others).
