'Tron Karaoke

Greetings, Guys And Gals... Long Time Between Posts...

Here's something interesting... A few years back, the Moody Blues
recorded an "unplugged" version of "Legend Of A Mind" for a tribute
CD called "Beyond Life With Timothy Leary"... with NO mellotron!!! I
bought the CD specificly for this alternative track... and was
disappointed for about 5 seconds at the lack of 'Tron... until I
realized that what I had was a 'Tron karaoke version of one of the
greatest 'Tron songs of all time!!! I only wish I could get
other 'tronless versions of great 'Tron classics like:(insert
fave 'Tron song here, guys and gals...)

I'm sure that someone on this list has this CD... and the resources
to download it to the "files"(if I had the resources, I'd download
it myself)... why you ask??? Maybe we could download the track from
the files, add on our own 'tron sounds, and then load the results
back to the files for everyone to enjoy! What do you think??? 'Could
be fun!!!

That's it... going back to "Lurk Mode" now...

Howdy Gang...

I see you guys have been experimenting with adding 'Tron to pre-recorded songs... some from groups who used 'Tron... some who didn't. Here's my two cents worth:

(1) "Legend Of A Mind"... from the "Beyond Life With Timothy Leary" CD... the Moodies did an acoustic version of this classic, with NO 'Tron... great one for 'Tron karaoke... had a LOT of fun with this one...

...now here's one from a group who didn't use 'Tron...

(2) "Ace Of Spades" ... Motorhead... I think half speed brass/ 3 violins could work... maybe Russian Choir in the chorus as well... which reminds me... have any of you ever heard the speed metal version of "Nights In White Satin" done by the Dickies? It's off the album (with one of my fave titles BTW...) "The Incredible Shrinking Dickies"... this cut goes to show that a great song can be done in a number of different styles... and still sound great!

... Would the "cha-cha" riff from the MK2 work in the Ace Of Spades?

Speaking of which... what new riffs would you like to see made available for the 'Tron? (the "Ace of Spades" opening riff comes to mind)

Yes, I've heard the Dickies verison! Probably been 20 years -- they covered a couple of other things like that, but I can't remember what they were...check out the 'tron on a similar song called "Sign of The Cross". It's on that I.R.S. sampler from the early 80's, before R.E.M. really broke...

Of course, I can't remember the name of the band who did it.

Sign Of The Cross was by Skafish - they do it live on the URGH! A Music
War compilation (film, vinyl, and it's on the cd too). It includes some
great performances by X, XTC, Magazine, Klaus Nomi, and a totally
psychotic performance by The Cramps. Then there's more pedestrian stuff
like The Police, The GoGos, and The Gary Numan...
From what I can tell, most of it was shot/recorded in the spring and
summer of 1980, some time before Miles Copeland heard of REM - at that
time, the original Hib-Tone single of Radio Free Europe was probably
just coming out.
