Is the Abbey Road one the grey one? I've seen a picture credited as
McCartney's Mellotron, and it looks like it was painted with a spray can.

Macca's MKII SFX is the origianl Abbey Road machine which Mike Oldfield
bought at the Sale of the Century in 1980. We bought it from Mike in 1993 and
sold it to Macca a year later.

Martin

I think it just went to show that Paul would be better retiring sooner
rather than later. Having said that, Mellotron sequence was very funny.

Did the machine need much work done on it?

Listening to the radio show, the flute's sounded wonderfully grainy,
I'm guessing it's the orginal tapes in there still?

Philip :)

It had green mold growing inside it due to damp and didn't really function.

The sound was so grainy on the broadcast because they miked the monitor
speaker and didn't use the line out, which is clear. I suppose they were trying
to reinforce the retro nature of the instrument and in a way it worked.
However, the instrument sounds a lot better DI'd through a desk.

Martin
