Yes with Rick Wakeman - tour.
The only date I know about is July 31st, Molson Amphitheater, Toronto.
I heard that the tour last year was good. Maybe he's got a beer IV
bag so that both hands are free this time. What will it be....cape
or no cape? A tron tape wig Fritz? I will go... but they better not
play that whole Topo-geo-graphic Oceans thing. They did all of Close
to The Hedge last year. (They didn't trim the hedge).

What's with you people? I consider Close to the Edge and Tales tremendous works. We're all entitled to our opinion and this is mine.

Yes with Rick Wakeman

Yes can do whatever they want, but somebody has got to tell Mr.Squire to deep six the bass solo. It's just plain embarrassing. It might have been a nice gimmick to pick up groupies in the seventies, but come on Chris! I'm a bass player and I hate bass solos.

Close to the Edge is a great record. Tales...sounds like Mr.Howe and Mr.Anderson smoked too much hash and Mr.Wakeman sounds like he's more interested in beer. Tales, for me, was the beginning of those awful caliope type sounds that Mr. Wakeman became so fond of. But if you want a really, really awful Yes album, look no further than "Tormato". What the hell were they thinking? I'm getting pissed off just thinking about the hard earned money I spent on that sewer hole cover. I call 'em as I sees 'em.

Fritz...and I do know what it is liked to have one's material slammed.

Dear All,

Any track that can get the word "cetacei" in the lyric HAS to be genius,

Well for my money, if you want calliope, you've got to go with Schikele & PDQ Bach. (The Intimate PDQ Bach album is still hilarious today) You think gigging with one of our heavy hulks is a pain, Schikele actually toured the US (and elsewhere?) with a real steam (no air blowers) calliope on stage back in the 70's.....whew, bless that roady!

Vance....calliope.hmmmm, a new sound for the tape library?

Schikele is an original, no doubt. I had the pleasure of seeing him quite a few times. Best one was at Carnegie Hall and the guy sitting next to me had purchased a last minute ticket--and thought the concert he was going to attend was the real deal. He sat through the first piece ("Concerto for Horn and Hardart") and then stormed out in a huff (or was it an Oldsmobile?). For this piece, Schikele actually used an old section of an automat dispenser to disguise the front of the percussion table. During tacets and long rests, orchestra members inserted their coins to get goodies to enjoy in their seats. PDQ Bach concerts are always a tad surreal. If you're ever in NYC around New Year's, he still does his annual concert.

As for calliope sounds, look no further than the first thing on the firstKC album. That was a calliope (air driven, though) Ian McD found sitting in a remote corner of the studio. He held down some of the lower keys to vent most of the instrument's air and then 'smeared' his hand around on some of the upper keys. It makes a 'proper' appearance at the end of TCOTCK. Streetly's new recorder voice makes an admirable substitute if you want to recreate this in your own home.

The live '73 concert version of this should have been
called... "Long, Tiresome Tales from Dull, Tedious, Slow, Uneventful
Oceans".

Tormato - Now there's a recording that you can play over and over and
over and never get enough. I love those mashed tomatoes... They are
symbolic... and I have found subliminal messages in them!

Close to the Edge is a great record.
+ Love it.

+ It was pretty intense in concert, and the only early YEs album that I don.t have on tape. I need to sit down and listen to the whole thing again.
But if you want a really, really awful Yes album, look no further than "Tormato". What the hell were they thinking?
+ Arrgh, YEs.

You should have been at the first Detroit show that tour. It was the second
stop on the tour. The previous night had been Boston. Apparently tour
management was unaware that the US speed limit had been changed from 70 mph
to 55 mph due to the oil shortage. The concert was supposed to start at 8
PM, but the equipment trucks didn't make it to Cobo Arena until 10:30 PM.
Due to the quick set-up and lack of testing, a lot of the gimmicks didn't
work. They only played half of "Tales";
years later, Wakeman was to claim that was the only night of the tour he
enjoyed. (-8 We did get a second encore, though.
