My review of it will appear in the next issue (#49) of "Progression". Speaking of which, my review of Brother Doddy's "The Feeling Of Far" is in the current issue (#48). Sucking up to old Fritz I said: FRITZ DODDY: _THE FEELING OF FAR_ 2005 (CD, 56:46); Independent Release FD6887 Style: progressive-pop/symphonic-rock Sound: 4 stars Composition: 3 stars Musicianship: 4 stars Performance: 4 stars Total rating: 15/16 If you live in the USA and think from time to time that you hear Mellotron in TV commercials, chances are you've just been Doddyized. An expert at crafting short effective musical snippets, Doddy brings that skill to bear in creating a progressive-pop sonic tapestry that rolls easily from one idea to the next. What a quality piece of work this is by the multi-instrumentalist. Everything about "The Feeling Of Far" is top drawer. Musically it's an inspired piece of psychedelic Beatles + Beach Boys + Moody Blues symphonic-colored pop, fused with a very modern sense of percussive propulsion. Like finding a bottle of really good red wine that's been aging forever in the cellar. In some ways it's not unlike Klaatu before they lost the script (but not quite as overtly "prog"). In others it's reminiscent of Todd Rundgren's plaintive pop albums. In fact Klaatu hijacked by a Mellotron-armed Brian Wilson, produced by The Runt, might not be too far from the mark. Certainly every bit as good as those icons. Were there justice in this world a man that creates such perfect, uplifting, gorgeous pop would be praised to the heavens and showered with the wealth of nations. Lovers of the rich warm earthiness of the 'tron and other analog keyboards will be in hog-heaven. "The Feeling Of Far" is a fabulous musical journey that will brighten your day. Buy it now!
