Ye olde EMI E4/103S M400 returns...

2005-01-19 by e4103s

Hello 'tronists!
I am the unfortunate new owner of the EMI disaster known tragically as
#E103. I am in search of schematics, any and all, as these machines didn't
always use the factory specs. It is my intention to completely overhaul the
unit, including new tapes, revamping the power supply and motor board,
stripping and refinishing to the original stained mahogany cabinet, resquaring
the whole machine and giving it the tenderness this bastard child 'tron never
had. I am unafraid. Any information or assistance is much appreciated.
I am and shall be,
Jack Younger

Hello Jack, and welcome to Mellotron Ownership! You'll be rippin' your
hair out before long. :-) But you're in good company (mostly old balding
men).

E4/103S...Gee, now that unit sounds somewhat familiar. :-) Nice to see it
hasn't strayed too far. It'll need some TLC, but it sounds like you're
ready to tackle it and have the right attitude about this one. If you
want, I can e-mail you a punch-list for that beastie (from what I can
remember anyway).

Cheers, and best wishes with your new friend!

(Note to self: GET ME OUTTA HERE!!!! IT'S BACK!!!! :-) )

I was listening to the studio cd yesterday and just thought of how
beautiful the Tron sounded on that one.Just curious if anyone knows if
Richard Wright still owns one?

Greetings,

Most of the "specs" I've seen simply give the M400's Length, Width,
Height, and Weight.

So unless your tron has gained a few pounds or inches around the
middle (like most of us) it should still be within "factory specs".

However, I do have schematics, if you need them please email me and
send a picture of the circuit board.

Regards,
Jim

Nobody else has responded here, so from what I know (which isn't much and
is usually wrong):

Floyd's black Mark II w/ gold trim was refurbished by Streetly a few years
back and sold to someone in Israel.
