Wakeman/M.Python/slamming Idaho

2005-01-14 by mellotrongirl

First off: This first story is how Rick Wakeman last made the news:

http://www.ananova.com/news/story/sm_1240751.html

Secondly, the discussion about military domanance reminds of a skit I
saw in an early Monty Python movie about how one unit of Allies took
on the enemy during WW2. The Allies, acting under the theory that if a
joke is funny enough, people would die laughing...so they marched
through enemy German territory en masse, reciting in unison a joke in
a language they didn't understand...so they were immune from the
lethal punchline. Germans crawled out of foxholes and appeared from
behind hiding places laughing hysterically until they succumbed.

Thirdly...what's with the pidgeonholing about Idaho? Too many
associate Idaho with spuds, rednecks and Republicans. The Aryan
racists were chased out looong ago from nothern Idaho, and at least
the Boise area is as progressive and diversity oriented as any modern
metropolis. I actually live across the Snake River from Idaho in
Eastern Oregon, where even Idahoans think we're about 25 years behind
the times. Now *THAT* I can understand.

speaking of kansas... did they ever use a mellotron?
[the band... not the state...]
i use to think about 10% of their material pretty interesting.
[in a pompous prog wankers kind of way...]

saw them once at a new years eve show here in philly at the
tower theatre [but under the influence of WAY too much LSD
to remember very much all these years later...]

;0)

jeff...
[still having flashbacks... but not always in a bad way...]

No Mellotron on any of the early stuff I listened to. I only liked a very few of their songs, "Song For America" being the zenith for me. When that album came out, I was a dead ringer for Phil Ehart's picture on the back cover and many people asked if that was who I was - that was a really, really long time ago. The bassist I was with in my last band was an occasional fill-in player for the embryonic Proto-Kaw band before they finally got going and Livgren stopped in briefly at a performance of ours one night. A real "brush with greatness."
What is the right amount of LSD, by the way? I was never able to determine that...

now we know jon - the truth is out.
i mean... has anyone EVER seen you and phil in the same
place at the same time? yeah... didn't think so.
so tell us: what the hell happened with "leftoverture"?

wow! livgren really turned up? that's really cool!

one of my old bands once opened up for "b movie".
b movie was a one hit wonder eurosynthpop band.
we did an awful show that night if i recall.
thank goodness only 20 people showed up.
a real brush with "forgettable mediocrity".

just slightly less than too much, in my experience.
and you'll know when you have too much [but don't panic
just because you have about 10 hours deal with it!]

-----Well, that's a sore point for me. I was voting for "Rightfinale" but everybody else was kissing Kerry's ass...
