Genesis

Greetings Mello friends!
If you haven't heard or bought the newly released Genesis triple disc "Platinum Collection" I'm here to recommend it highly!
My unsolicited opinion is that's "platinum" is a great description as it covers many classic tunes by this great band.
It also helps keep me sane while US customs holds up my fully rebuilt M400 SM from our friends Martin and John. While I'm at it thank you both for you services and I'm sure it will be well worth the wait!

re: reunion questions...

Phil:
"I'm open for it. I'm happy to sit behind the drums and let Peter be
the singer. "

What about Ray Wilson?

PG will need to learn the words to Invisible Touch! (Not to mention
the stuff from Calling All Stations! :-) )

Ray Wilson was never "in" Genesis. The record buying public made that
evident.

But will he still let Peter Gabriel play his wee bass drum...?

I don't know what you guys are on about! Genesis were just an arty-
farty pseudo-intellectual mob only listened to by pretentious students
in bedsits.
Then Peter Gabriel left and they improved slightly.
Then Steve Hackett left and they improved a bit more.
Then I waited for Phil Collins to leave. Damn, it never happened, that
would have improved things a lot. Don't get me wrong, he's a good
drummer; indeed if I could form my ideal band with anyone in it I
liked, Phil would be on the drums - on the condition that he does not
sing, or have any part in writing the songs.
No the only bad thing about Genesis' continued development, is that the
Tron got lost along the way.

(Sits back ... waits for flamimg ... )

Steve.

actually Phil DID leave and then they put out CALLING ALL STATIONS which actually had
some pretty good songs on it, tho it reminded me more of a Mike & Mechanics album than
Genesis. The real turning point in the band came when the Mellotron quit the group.

Genesis critics seem to be remarkably angry, hateful, nasty and
bitter.

That's just not good for the soul.

Yes...
It is all true...
Genesis went horrible without the ´tron. Complete rubbish.
Some people might think I am a bit extreme but I even skip the tracks that don't have any tron on them...Not worth the hassle, is it ?
By the way, has anyone heard the new Take that single. I was completely blown away when I heard it on MTV. Great songwriting, amazing vocals harmonies, dynamic production and a gorgeous flute Mellotron pumping away a la Strawberry fields ( in the verses I think). Awesome stuff.
I have never been a big fan of Take that, I have always found them to be annoying overly commercial rubbish but that Mellotron flute really changed my view on the band. I'd give it four TTTT on the tron scale. Innovative and unexpected.
Keep on tronning (preferrably flutes !).

>>RE: In all fairness, back in the 70's. I attended a fair share of concerts here in Cleveland, especially Genesis including their first U.S. tour, got to work on stage for that one, and cannot remember any concert that would top them for overall quality, one of the few groups in my opinion that sounded as good live as on record. The "Lamb" tour was my favorite, Showco did staging, and I have yet to experience anything that could top "Los Endos" with the fog machines pumping upward and the Vari-lites sweeping upwards in unison with the Choir knocking down the walls. A close second and third would be Earth Wind and Fire Sphynx and ELO out of the blue tours, both again staged by Showco. Like or dislike Genesis, they consistently put out quality albums, gave quality concerts, and few groups past or present have accomplished that status. .... Doug
