keyboard magazine review?

2004-11-30 by Jeff Coulter

does anyone know what year the keyboard magazine review
of the mellotron.com's mark vi was in? i thought i had
every issue for the past few years [ugh... don't ask -
i just recentrly tossed out nearly 20 years worth of
mix magazine issues...] but i cannot locate this review
of new mellotrons...

[it's mentioned on the webpage at http://www.mellotron.com/ ]

i probably have it somewhere, but just can't find it.
was it actually in an april issue?

or... anyone have a copy they could scan for me?

note: it's for "educational" purposes - not for profit.

thanks in advance...

Tears For Fears new one...

2004-11-30 by mark kasian

...is fabulous and just FULL of Mellotron. There are
two 400's used on the record (this per one of the
musicians on the album) One is owned by Kenny Siegel
and the other by Charlton Pettus. Both restored by DK
in the late 90's. Charlton's was purchased from Dave.

I also heard the MK II "Swinging Flutes" used in a
television commercial last week. Was that you Fritz?

Mark.

Well spotted, Mark - how did you get the info? Who actually plays the
things?

Hi Andy

I knew that Kenny Siegel was one of Dave's clients for
many years and called him when I saw the credits. By
"him", I mean Dave. He also said that Mr. Pettus was
one of the more enthusiastic owners of the M400 with
no less than 8 frames for it!

I think the record (aside from DK's personal
collection of wacky frames) is Lenny Kravitz with 12.
He also has, what I believe to be, the first of
Markus' multi frame cases. Pretty neat.

Anyway, I have been listening to "Happy Endings" all
week in my car and it just gets better and better.

Mark.

Thanks for pointing all this out (your opinions & the Mellotron info).

I picked up the TFF & the new Duran Duran at the same time a couple weeks ago; the TFF was in the CD player before I left the Best Buy parking lot. But it didn't 'do it' for me, maybe I was just expecting something a little different.....and I haven't even given it a second chance (yet).
The Duran Duran, on the other hand, I've been playing with some frequency; I like it!!!

Now, having read your messages, I intend to give the new TFF another full and devoted listening, in fact in just a few minutes as I make my way to the pizzeria to pick up my din-din. Oh, I would have 'gotten around' to more listenings eventually, but.....consider yourself my inspiration!!!!!

Best regards,
Mark B.,
aka MSB

HI Mark,

Well, of course, your mileage may vary! I'm a long
standing TFF fan anyway and it's been eons since their
last release....or should I say Orzabal's last
release. I guess the presence of the Mellotron so high
in the mix was just the icing on the cake.

Mark.
