M400 on eBay

RE: [Mellotronists] M400 on eBay

This question was probably asked only about a million times; however, I'm
going to raise it again: "How much would it cost to have a flight case made
for the Mellotron-- worthy of air travel." Are there certain things one
should disengage when flying a Mellotron (remove the keyboard, remove frozen
human torso from inside cabinet, etc.)?

Jimmy -

I shipped my M400 in its custom made ("worthy of air travel") flight case a few months back and still there was damage. I made the mistake of leaving in the tape frame - never again. Even though I had all the thumbscrews tightened down and had rubber bands securely holding the tape bar in place on both ends, a couple of the thumbscrews came completely out of the frame, probably due to vibration, and the rubber bands broke. This resulted in my favorite tape frame flopping about wildly during transport, spewing oxide from the tapes over everything inside, and slight damage to the OUTER side of the M400 lid from a thumbscrew rattling around inside the flight case. For this to happen, the entire case must have been upside down at some point during the trip. I can now imagine them flipping the flight case over, off the wheels, and stacking it on top of something else inside a big truck. The freight company completely disregarded the "fragile" and "this side up" signs clearly marking the case. This was ground transportation, so maybe air freight would be less stressful (less time = less stress?).

If I ever ship it this way again (doubtful), it will be without the tape frame. I may even remove the keyboard and tape box cover. If in doubt about how to ship, just consider what will happen if it is sent "upside down". I don't mean to scare you, I've transported both of my M400s in the past without incident. Just take out the tape frame.

Hey, Hey, Hey...now let's be nice......LOL.....Consider........
Maybe he has a vision that Mellotrons will be the next DotComs......think about it...we could make billions!!!!...maybe even millions!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
..and we should respect his honesty ;-? "Will need to be tuned"...where do you find a good Mellotron tuner these days?
Actually, somehow he sounds more like a Talent Agent...(if he pulls this off I'll always regret he wasn't mine back when I was pounding the boards). Or maybe he got it from a Talent Agent in lieu of promises never delivered?
....Or, since no picture was posted...he's your neighbor and he hasn't figured out how to boost yours yet. Lock your doors when you leave and keep the dogs well underfed.

Hi Guys,
Bit of news. I am now the highest bidder on the Tron on eBay, but it
has yet to reach reserve. If it doesn't then it will be unsold, so I
shall contact the seller tomorrow after the auction finishes. As I'm
working in the morning, I can't watch it right up to the end. D'oh!!

Oh by the way, when I was born on October 17th, 1954, number one in
Great Britain was Hold My Hand by Don Cornell (no, i've never heard of
it either).

Hi Guys,
This tron came up on ebay last year. I bid on it up to £700. No one came near
the reserve which was £2,000. I know this cause I asked the guy after the
auction closed. He said it was a high reserve as he didn't have to sell it.
Maybe he's changed his mind this year and lowered it. After the tron didn't
sell I had several emails supposedly from ebay members offering a "second
chance" purchase of the same tron. One of these offers came from London and
said the tron was now there and another came from Japan who said it was there!
Not suprisingly non of these emails had originated from ebay.

John

M400 on eBay

Thanks for the info John, if the reserve is £2000 he's going to be
disappointed (well he is if he relies on me!). I'm just about to buy a
new car so can't bid too high, if I miss it I'll just carry on saving
for the M4000!
I'll keep you all posted.

If I win the lottery tonight, I'll place the high bid, high enough to be sure to win. Then I'll arrange to have it picked up locally and delivered to Streetly for a good once-over, after which Martin and crew can pack it for overseas shipping to me here in L.A., along with a few choice new tape sets yet T.B.D.

Hey, I can dream, can't I???

Ya know, I read and re-read what I had written a dozen times and was sure it said what I meant for it to say, and that it made sense, before posting that message.

Yet obviously something got screwed up between my eyeballs and my typing fingers.

Must be an effect of spending too much time reading the posts of this group.

PS, I didn't win the lottery, surprise surprise.

Gosh, the starting bid seems a little high, though it obviously has been repainted. I think the seller is going to be sadly disappointed when no one bids on this.

Ooooo, it's a sexy black one. Yes, we've seen it before, and judging by the starting bid, we're likely to see it again.

yeah - looks VERY familiar.

it is nice to see that it includes documentation.
and it looks like the plastic cap on the power switch it intact!
the keys look to be in decent shape also.

does the owner know the cover comes off, and that shots of
the inside would be VERY useful to a potential buyer?
