Ditto -
And any producers, like Tony Allom (Strawbs), who worked to get "the

Im sure we all know the usual names: Mike Pinder, Tony Banks, Mr. Wakeman, the guys from Tangerine Dream..., but I would like to proposse some good 'tronists from other countries, just as a reference to outside UK.

Teddy Bautista (Canarios, Spain)
Giani Leone (Il Balletto di Bronzo, Italy)
Pit Corradi (Museo Rosenbach, Italy)

and maybe even Francis Decamps (Ange, France) for his sinister and atmosferic use in some Ange albums.

Maybe some others?

Best wishes. Nacho.

The list...

...todays bands, that use Mellotrons live.
Swedish section (well, 'cause I love their music:)

Änglagård (Thomas and Anna, but Mattias Olson seems to be the owner of the =

instrument)

Anekdoten (Nicklas Barker / Anna Sofi Dahlberg)

Landberk

Paatos

The first two seem to be famous enough in Prog-Land to be asked and compari=
ng to
Tony Banks or Rick Wakeman, they will be interested to talk about the Tron =
;-))

Greetings,
Thomas

i know klaus schulze at least USED to own one - a dual keyboard
if i recall [mkII?] it's in many of the studio pics from the 80s.
[added to his collection ~1976]

does anybody know what ever happened to that one?
is it in mothballs with much of his other older gear?

We tried to buy it 8 years ago and Klaus wanted 10.000DM. He then sold it
weeks later to our friend Klaus Hoffman for 1700DM! Alcohol can seriously
damage your brain.

How about chapters in chronological order?

The Beginning - Harry and his inventions, the UK connection, the machines
themselves

The First Years - Beatles, Moodies, BJH, etc.

The Golden Years (or, the "Explosion") - King Crimson, Yes & Wakeman,
Genesis, Refugee, SF&F, Tangerine Dream, PFM, Focus, England, Tomita,
Synergy, Gentle Giant, Fireballet, Il Balleto di Bronzo, and dozens
(hundreds?) of other Italian/German/English pre-disco bands

The Quiet Time - Richard Burmer, IQ, more Tomita, machines getting snapped
up for little or no money because of the Advent Of The DX-7

The Resurgence - Anglagaard, Landberk, Anekdoten, RMI, Spock's Beard, etc.,
machines being maintained and provided by the snapper-uppers mentioned above

something like that...?

Ah yes, I think that was probably a MkV, if it was the same one that
I saw on the back cover of one of his albums many moons ago.

All great suggestions guys/girl, but perhaps the scope of the book should be
slightly wider if possible.

Will the book include any observations/experiences of Chamberlin playing
(maybe Birotron as well - time to ask Wakeman/Earthstar)?

Otherwise the book will still be lacking a LOT of information and leaving
readers with many questions.

If you only had one chance at this and you wanted to do it beyond reproach
for all time - what/who/why would you ask???

I guess what I'm getting at is there's a whole plethora of musicians/people
(albeit not as well known) who would have been familiar with using these
instruments from the early 50's on up. Lawrence Welk was one of the first
people interested in the Chamberlin and even offered to fund it if it was
called a "Welk Machine" (His interest in Harry's wife being a moot point).

That's an example of the kind of arcane info that would be worth reading
about, along with what we do and still don't know about Mellotrons. I think
this would make it a more worthwhile venture.

Another fact is that at least over here in Canada/U.S the
Mellotron/Chamberlin have been confused together to the point where one is
consistently mistaken for the other by musicians/liner note writers etc.
This was true in the golden days and it's still true now. This is something
we tend to ignore because we're fairly well versed in the differences
between the two machines. Unfortunately, many others are not and the laymen
don't care to be.

So.....can it be a 50/50 amount about the history of the machines
themselves/music celebrity observations or is that going overboard?

Chris

What about Fritz Doddy. he has put more mellotron in American adverts in the last five years than can be counted.

best,

Fritz

Perhaps you could provide us a list of commercials that you have done the music beds for, as well as keep us alerted to new projects as you complete them. I think all of us would enjoy knowing that while were away from the TV relieving ourselves or grabbing another beer from the fridge, that the music behind the overly loud commercial playing in the background was created by non-other than our good fiend Fritz.

Plus (at least in my case) I can point out the Tron sounds to the wife, thereby demonstrating agai and again their continued relevance and importance.

Thanks in advance (and even more grateful for TiVo)

most of the rest of us can get past that 2 digit thing fritz.
maybe if you employ someone else's hand to add more fingers?
;0)

just kidding of course, and you are absolutely right, fritz - kudos!
it would make an interesting "who is using them prominently now"
chapter to wrap up the book... wouldn't it?

Fritz personally I'd really like to know which spots you've done! At the risk of brow beating even an owner of 29 years can have second thoughts on the sound source in this age of sampling.

Couldn´t agree more...!
I hate new bands who use Mellotrons.
Why not have a section in the book with interviews of old reunited ( " we have never sounded better " ) bands who use samples ?
It could be both informative and enlightening to all of us.

Or better still, those who don't even bother with 'Tron samples, sticking to generic sampled strings. Rick who?
