Digital samplers are wonderful instruments. People like Nick Magnus
were blending Mellotron sounds together with other string or choir
synths long ago. It is very easy to do now.

A lot of the "new" string, brass and choir samples sound too clean.
(flawless, near perfect pitch.... lifeless!) Using a "detune" effect
can help. Blending in layers of 'tron samples can really bring it
back to life.

There's a lot to be said about leaving the flaws, distortion and bad
notes in there. The White Stripes played live at the Grammy Awards.
Two people, out of tune, distorted and off time... Just about total
chaos at times. I loved it! For me, it was the only memorable
performance in the whole program.
