Enough already!
2004-02-19 by kathnrich
You're right, enough already. The TronBros. Have a global obligation
to be more professional and not use this forum at all for any past, present,
or future issues of the Mellotron. The Mellotron is ours, not theirs. They
have always been this way, and that is why I said , enough already.
David Kean and that bunch are a good set of people. Personnal
experience. None of this bickering back and forth should be on this chat at
all. I'm done.

None of this bickering back and forth should be on this chat at > all. I'm done. Rich, You continually miss the point. We have no axe to grind and have recently stated so in terms of Markus. However, the mellotron thing is dear to us and we have always strived to maintain the highest standards. What we hate is the use of terms like ' the best' when the blindest of people can see that what's on offer is patently not so. Whatever the deal (and sometimes prices are tight) you cannot put your name to something that is obviously shoddy. What you and Mark do is resort to personal insults rather than deal with the issue. If you and others are going to enjoy the mellotron revival which has to be funded and reinvested in (despite our low business standards, Rich), the the only way to go is for the best at all times. The embarrasing thing here is that a picture has appeared that reveals to all a poor assessment of what is acce ptable. Putting a mellotron right is one thing, making the keyboard level pales by comparison and should be a prerequisite and never ignored. A poor paint job will ruin the sales of an otherwise immaculate car. AND STOP GETTING OVER EMOTIONAL!!!!!!. Martin Streetly Electronics - all things MELLOTRONIC - click this link.......... I spent the day performing semi-final test/debug on MK-II/134 , a real Pindertron from the M-B . And what's awaiting me at the email-inbox? .....Sheesh ! It seems that there will always be irreconcilable differences between this side of the pond and the land where ALL Mellotrons can trace their origins. This began with questioning of fit/finish on an M400 or two on eBay. And then spiraled down to name-calling and innuendoes. As one who strives to do the BEST work possible, for myself or for others, I'd never permit anything with compromised appearance/function to leave the premises. Any Tron I've worked on WILL be in better shape leaving than arriving. If requested not to perform a full cosmetic restoration due to time/cost constraints, then mechanically it HAS to perform dependably. There will always be the "DK-camp" and the "Streetly-camp." So be it.....Each has their unique following of models and personnel. But it lessens the community at-large to force opinions upon another, then unleash a barrage of personal attacks. Facts are facts, gang. I wouldn't buy a "p.o.s." for a high-price from anyone.....Anyone. As long as the funds are still in my hand, I control the cards. As Frank Stickle indicated, most anything can be fixed, even warped keys (been there, done that too). But words can damage more than what's fixable. Let's all return to our corners and consider this latest round a draw...... (referee has spoken) .......Jerry Korb (needs cosmetic restoration, but mech. fine ) Mellotron lover /fixer at-large, builder/designer of the JKMK6, 100% restoration of M400/681( my orig.), M300/037 (formerly DK's), MK-I/124 (formerly RAL's, & Gordon Reid), and MK-II/134 Pindertron (prop. F.Samagaio)

Here we go again!! Is there really any need for all this nastiness when the facts about this one tron were dubious as stated at best? I go with Jerry on this. "there will always be a Streetly camp and a DK-camp" and it looks like there will always be bad feeling between them. I'm not really interested in all the bad history crap and I really wish the insults and name-calling could be kept private. The purpose of this list (I thought) was to provide a help and interest forum for people who are passionate about Mellotrons but if people want to sling mud at each other they should do it elsewhere. Regarding the two camps; I for one plan to sit in a place I can get the best service for my tron and at the moment that's right between the two. I have no experience of Dave or Markus's ability to quickly fix or provide technical info on M300's so I rely on JB for that and so far he's fixed electronic problems very swiftly. Also you can phone him seemingly at any time and he'll be very helpful. However - I've just had some dealings with DK, I spoke to him on the phone recently. He is certainly still passionate about the Mellotron but does leave most things up to Markus these days because he too is fed up of the mud-slinging. - He could not have been more helpful and in a way that really he needn't have been. Thanks Dave (hopefully that will filter through to him). So we have a choice of two main suppliers that you can use for different things mellotronic - that has to be a good thing! John M300/005

>As I can attest. Many thanks, Jerry, for the hours you spent working on >my M400 at the Tronto Fest. ...and for help with 1037 (http://www.kleonard.com/gear/1037/Default.htm) as well as the educational field trips past. And future, I'm sure. :-) And to be fair and balanced, I've seen and played a Mark VI, and I think it's a great machine---consistent to play, cleanly built, nice upgrades such as the tube preamp. I've seen pictures of Frank's work, and I'd swear the refinish work looks better than brand new (ask him to send you some pics). The Streetly Boyz do solid work--I've seen examples of their dedication time after time (and now they have an arm in California, too). I have parts and tapes from DK's shop as well as from the UK, and I'm grateful that both have them available. The availability of those parts have helped #805 and will help bring #1037 back to playability. I like the fact that many have contributed and continue to contribute to this community. It benefits everyone. Thanks for keepin' it alive, guys! ...kl...
