Let em have it Mark. The more they knock the more I will never send
anything or recommend anything of them. They just show they're low
intelligence to the "world", not even a select few.

Well at least they didn't steal a trademark off its rightful
owners ;-)

If they stole something Dave. Isn't there ways of legally getting it
back? If in fact they stole something.? I do not believe they stole
anything. I do not beleive for one minute the Kean bunch stole a thing.
Where is the litigation to stop their business.A lot of others also do not
believe this. Somebody was not fully at the wheel on the other side.

...who had abandoned the trademark in 1987....not to
mention the hundreds of Mellotron owners that were
stranded until Kean started it up again in 1990. And
who, in their right mind, would go to all that trouble
without owning the rights to the name? Also, Les
Bradley assisted Kean in getting that registration in
the first place. End of story.

Again, get your facts straight before you start
blowing all the hot air.

Also, there are TONS of legal issues that Martin and
John, if they have any sense left at all, would be
wise to avoid. I've heard the taped conversations with
Les Bradley....whoa brother.

asleep at the wheel indeed. For many years and still
that way. It's why the MK VI has been in production
for over 5 years..and also why the turnbuckle mold is
in Sweden....on and on it goes.

FYI I have no problem with the Swedish-built 600, indeed there was a
superb review in "Sound on Sound" of just such a machine by a very
respected British reviewer who himself owns a Streetly rebuilt 400. He
provided a wonderfully disinterested critique of the instrument, and
found the build quality to be excellent. I don't think the reputation
of the current fare from Mellotron Archives is the issue here.

I DO however have a problem with sub-standard workmanship even when it
is 'down to a price'. If my own Streetly tron had been supplied needing
a tooth-brace and a good dental plan then I would not have tolerated
it, not from John and Martin, nor from anyone else supplying a new or
reconditioned Mellotron.

I work with acoustic pianos. If a client asks me to skip an essential
part of a restoration, then I either refuse to do any work at all to
that piano, or convince them that the restoration is incomplete without
that work. I'd rather lose the client than have my reputation tarnished
by a poor instrument with a repair attributed to me. The keys on that
ebay Mellotron were not of the standard anyone should tolerate from a
supposedly rebuilt instrument.

As for trademark use, then my earlier diatribe was not meant to be
anything other than a statement of fact. The Mellotron branded T-shirts
etc highlighted in these pages may well indeed be earning Mellotron
Archives money in royalties. Fair play. - But if they aren't, then I'm
afraid there is little that they can do about it provided that the
shirt manufacturers have registered that trademark themselves as a
brand of apparel.

Finally, good luck in your quest for a real live Mellotron, Mr.
Hofmeyer. I can't help thinking that eBay is Not The Way though!!

I'm becoming more disenchanted with my Ebay hunt for a
'tron. I don't mind seeking other paths for this
elusive gem, though I fear that they've all been tread
by enthusiasts as yourselves.

Ideally, I'd come across one in a garage sale here in
San Francisco- sold by an aging musician who realizes
what he has but wants to unload it quickly
[read: I don't want to take advantage of someone's
ignorance, nor do I want to pay a boatload of money!]

I have been searching Craigslist and have, very
recently, made a little script that will go to every
metropolitan area that the site serves and search for
the Mellotron. When it finds a match, I receive an
email. I finished the script last night and it works
pretty well (...though it needs a little massaging -
since it currently sends duplicates of some
listings..)

Realistically, I should just hunker down and save over
the next couple months. With the people on this list
sellling refurbished and new mellotrons, it would save
me a lot of headache in the name of minor fiscal
benefit.

That MTron software is starting to look appealing...

i found mine in a "tradin' times" - one of those free local
papers you get in convenience stores... i think most towns
have an equivilent publication - they sell everything from
cars to... junk
the tron in our studio was a gift from an olde time philly
musician [it required some work, but the price was right!]

patience is the key.
maybe even forgetting about your search for a while then
it will come to you... don't gget too carried away or you
may get stuck with a dog or pay too much...
