Doug Ferguson

2002-02-25 by Markus Resch

Hello there!

David Kean asked me to post the following:

Hello all,
I want to let you know that a dear friend and ardent Mellotron aficionado
passed away this last Saturday.
Doug Ferguson was one of my earliest clients and, as happens so often in
this wacky business, became a close friend over the years. His fascination
for the Mellotron was true to both the idea of the design and the intention
of it's inventors, he commented frequently on how he wondered at the
engineering behind the instrument and whether the inventors realized how
much impact they would have on the music world.
Doug was responsible for introducing me to many of the more obscure bands of
the 70's that used the tron; Spring, Il Balletto, Wind, Lift, Celeste and
many others...his own music CD's showed up once or twice a years with tons
of great playing and the tron up front and center.
His support for other tron users was born out of both excitement for it and
, mostly, a need for friendship from like-minded individuals like
yourselves.
Spare a moment of thought for him, with an eye towards this rare common
ground that we share.
I'll miss him a great deal.
David T. Kean

met him. He touched many lives. He was a longtime employee of Perotti's
Pizza, founder of the musical group "Ohm," and member of the local group,

Dear All,

We are so very sorry to hear about Doug.  We spoke together only a few times about his MKII project and he seemed a really nice fella, an impression confirmed by the tributes here.  People dying so young is always a shock and but when you have had some personal contact it feels even more so.

I am sad to hear of the passing of our friend, Doug.  Although it has been a while, we had some nice exchanges about trons.

Sorry to hear that, I met Doug not too long after I came to the DFW area,
he had a "keyboard yard sale" and I brought some stuff over to sell.
Had a nice time sitting there passing the hours with him and his friends,
and enjoyed his eclectic keyboards!

Man, that's terrible! Sorry to hear that. I wish I got to meet him.
Looks like we were neighbors. How long did he live in Fort Worth?

Doug Ferguson

2002-02-28 by Markus Resch

Dave asked me to post the following to the list:

I attended Doug's memorial service this morning......it was a very
beautiful service, and at least 300 people were there.
His Mellotron 400 sat in front of the altar, with pictures of Doug on it
and in front of it. The minister even spoke about the Mellotron during
his sermon, and how much it (and music) meant to Doug. Some of Doug's
music was also played at the service.
Just thought you'd like to know........

Sad news indeed all.

I didn't know him, but condolences to friends and family all the same.
