I see that the world's most royal Mellotron owner (yet the least willing
to pay for the damned thing) has done the UK taxpayers a favour this
morning.

Twenty-five to go!

I'm shocked....shocked I say... to learn that Mike is not a royalist. What
is the world coming too? He'll be clamouring for a republic soon, no doubt!

Tasteless. Unnecessary. Obnoxious. And inaccurate.

We don't need this.

It appears another old member of the Mellotron community has left us.
Vaya con dios, Mr. Maurice Gibb.
So, what are some good examples of Bee Gees Mellotron use? Never was a fan, but as I understand it, there's lots of Mark II on some of their earlier stuff. Any suggestions?

Try "Every Christian Lion Hearted Man Will Show You" from "Bee Gees 1st". Amazing in-your-face tron, and the mood certainly fits the occasion.

Yes, it's all very sad. Go to this page and click on the 60's and you
can hear a bit of tron: http://www.beegeesonline.com

My dad introduced them at a concert in Omaha (was dj at WOW-AM). My
dad was always called "Morris" after Maurice because they look
identical. I just got off the phone and told my dad about his passing
which disturbed him greatly.

I always admired them for the impact they had on popular music. I
thought the earlier tunes were worth listening to.

We will miss you Maurice!

Ok, I just listend to both those songs. They are great! I'm going to
go get that CD tomorrow. I also found about 20 other songs that they
recorded years before in Australia. Quite impressive and it shows
their writing ability was far beyond what their Saturday Night Fever
had reflected..
Thanks!

I think maybe "Red Chair Fade Away" also on Bee Gees First. What a great first album to launch considering they were only about 17 years old at the time. Goodbye Maurice, we will miss You !

A tremendous loss to the musical community then.
I have had the pleasure of seeing him a few times and his one and two (my German is rusty) 2600s inspired me to get a second unit.
Indeed Joe Zawinal RIP, as you are already missed!

Doubtless many of you have heard of the very recent passing of Philip Dodds of ARP, Kurzweil, and "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" fame, but I have been unable to discover a published cause of death. Anybody with any more info out there?

Philip Dodds died 10/06/07 of cancer after a 20-month battle.
