'tron on "Up"

'tron on "Up"

2003-04-11 by Ken Leonard

I don't recall seeing Peter Gabriel's "Up" mentioned here as a somewhat
recent album containing Mellotron. He's credited on 3 tracks with it,
including "The Barry Williams Show" which I've heard on the radio. At best
it's incidental/buried, not a lot of it, haven't really heard it yet 'cept
maybe for some flutes on "My Head Sounds Like That" (still listening, though).

Was it mentioned here earlier and I missed it? Or nobody out here has it
(which wouldn't shock my monkey, actually).

...kl...M400 #805 - so?

Listen to 'Growing Up'. Its not credited (except maybe as 'sample
keys'), but there's some very clear tron (or chamberlin) cello on the
intro and in other spots.

My initial reaction was that Up was a bit dull, but after a few listens
it might not be so bad.

My best to your monkey.

I reviewed this earlier this year
(http://freespace.virgin.net/andy.thompson/reviewsg.htm#gabriel), coming to
the conclusion that "Er, I couldn't hear it!". If it wasn't for the
inimitable Jon Brion's Chamberlin, I'd assume that it was more a figure of
speech than the real thing.

Andy's review says:

Andy (or anyone),

So what am I hearing on Growing Up? Sure sounds like chamberlin cello.
(definitely audible).
