Magma Mellotron

2003-03-22 by Bernie Kornowicz

Hi Group,

I just finished listening to French band Magma's "Attahk" album for
the first time in many years and noticed the Mellotron flute, mixed
brass(?) and 3 violins in "Dondai (to an eternal love)".

Does anyone know what model they used and if they used a Mellotron
on any other albums?

Bernie (looking for M400 #2003)

daze. So much for my newly acquired Sandrose CD... :)
PS: Lionel Ritchie's "Hello" would be perfect if he had used a 'tron,
instead. I'll settle for practically perfect.

Hello Bernie,

Magma used a Chamberlin M1 (flute and strings) for the "Attahk" album,
not a Mellotron.

Cheers,

David

Hi David,

Thanks for the correction. My tin ear can't tell the difference
between a Chamberlin and a Mellotron :(

What is the brass sound in "Dondai"? Mixed brass? Trumpet? It's just
before the strings towards the end of the song.

P.S. Very nice Mellotron pics on your website!

Bernie
