McCluskey still has his Novatron...

2003-03-12 by David Davis

Yes but I went to http://www.omd.uk.com
and discovered that Andy McCluskey does indeed
still have his Novatron!

http://www.omd.uk.com/cgi-bin/ikonboard/topic.cgi?forum=9&topic=34&start=10

He also recommends the "propellor island" Mellotron
sample CD-ROM....

Streetly should pop up to the Wirral and sell him
some new tape frames full of atomic kitten sounds.
Or sthg.

then he's deranged, and my ponderings about his mellotron sound are
explained. characterised by being the only recorded examples of a mellotron
part where ALL of the notes are out of tune; most users troubled by pitch
problems at least managed to get a few notes on key, even given the different
temperaments of the various source instruments conjured from within the
portable orchestra.
still loved OMD, though. they were never as cool as depeche mode or the human
league, and light-years away from other peers like joy division/new order,
cocteau twins and the rest, but they did the job alright. and the
tape-recorder on-stage... we still use that gag now, occasionally.
reminds me- this 1/4" kit on e-bay. is it claimed to be an original? does it
have the dingature for the voice selector? mine had instructions with it too,
and I think ken l had a set made from a jpeg I sent him. I wonder how many
there are out there.... I will have to get mine back in service.....
