top artist to play a tape replay device on stage?

2003-02-26 by dogload2000 <dogload2000@yahoo.co.uk>

As my second ever post on here, I'd like to follow up the McCartney
thing with my suggestion...
...top artist to play a tape replay device on stage for me (assuming
we're talking recently) would have to go to Julian Cope on
his 'recent' Audience With the Cope tours. I saw him in 2001 at
Newcastle's Tyne Opera House (here in the uk) where he had his
psychedelic M400. I think- recollections hazy!
Anybody else see this tour? Big boots, big make-up, big guitars!
Top notch performer- if your reading this Copey, isn't it time you
got back up here?

I saw Julian at the Leadmill in Sheffield a few years ago. It was a
very entertaining evening with lots of silly stories and jokes. All he
had on stage was his M400, nothing else. On it were MkII violins,
crisps and edgey, 8 choir (See the audience jaws drop!) and the
first time I'd heard the St John's Wood Church organ (see my jaw
drop!). Wonderful.

Good to hear about Cope! Hopefully he added gobs of 'tron to tunes
like Charlotte Anne, China Doll, An Elegant Chaos, World Shut Your
Mouth, Trampolene....

The 1992 compilation "Floored Genius" is great.... He went through a
dry spell in the mid to late 90's.... Good to see he's back.

A wonderful lunatic. Seen him maybe three times in the last few years, all
w/psych M400. I'm not actually convinced it's MkII violins, as it's a much
'fuller' sound, with quite bassy notes - sounded more like string section to
me. Anyway, well worth seeing, even if you're not a fan of the music per se.
And no, he doesn't do his 'hits' with or without 'Tron.

On the JC website, (no not Jesus)he says...
"I have a bunch of tapes which no one else has. I bought three tape-
frames from Tangerine Dream in 1995"

I guess that means that the TD tapes are a one-of-a-kind custom mix.
