Hello Jon and everybody,

KL just coined a fantastic phrase ! Screeching-Cable-Rot
occurs with either an intermittent connection at the moulded
headblock plug to the preamp, or faulty 1/4" phone jack
connection on lower-right for foot-pedal.

JB always replaced the moulded plug with nice alum.
equivalent. The actual name for these connectors is
"Belling-Lee" and still used in the UK for UHF television
connections. These are seen in every Mellotron,
and abound in MK1/2 models.

Worst manifestation of "SCR" is reception of radio
signals, which can actually magnetise the heads in left
unchecked. The headblock is a wonderful device to
search for RF, if ever the Arecibo-Dish goes bad,
we can attach EVERY Mellotron headblock together
for a "Very Large Array" , and listen for prime numbers.

Hope this helps, JS. --Jerry Korb--

ooo, yeah, that, too...Been there.

Also if you're running the SMS-4 motor controller you may want to check
Dave Kean's mellotron.com site for the mod for it---getting rid of a 60Hz
hum by grounding one wire. That is if you don't have "screeching cable
rot" and are just experiencing that damn hum.

martin, can I have "screeching cable rot" in my next frame please, with the
cats and.... 300A again, I think.
strings in the middle, though but.
(and where's woolly got to?)

and isn't somebody going to welcome don and ask him his serial number? how
will we persuade him to unmothball his 400 and start enjoying it again if we
ignore him?
don (the new one, don), welcome to the asylum.
