QUESTIONS

2002-01-26 by zapper106@aol.com

Hi Guys,

can anyone answer my question regarding "Iceberg does it live" ?

From a non owner point of view, it was interesting to learn a little more on
the more recent Mellotron history, and know the true color on the MKVI panel
light (pink) ?

I kind of agree with Clay Eccles "Group hug" is in order.
The guys on both sides of the pond seem to do a good job.
Well done to JB of streetly trying to smooth the waters.

Don, how do new members joint the list now ?

thanx
Pete

Just like any other Yahoo group. Go to:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Mellotronists

And click on something like "join".

If you've never been on a Yahoo group before, you need to register.
And there may be other Yahoo groups you find interesting. (I also run
the BayProg list for SF Bay Area progressive rock musicians and
fans.)

Pete:
The light is Starless RED.

Does anyone remember "River of Life"
by PFM (Premiata Forneria Marconi)
from 1973's Photos of Ghosts LP
Pete Sinfield - English remix, production

What model of Mellotron was used?
How did they get it to sound like that?
(awesome!!)

It sounds to me like a string synth (type unknown) dubbed over the original
Mark II. I have to say, I vastly prefer the original Italian version to me -
just pure 'Tron! And the track's nearly a minute longer - several of the
remixed versions get intros chopped, etc.

And PFM rocked the house! I saw them and was amazed. Chocolate Kings was quite good also, in my opinion. Trivia, does anyone out there know what PFM stands for? I do ... lol.

Premiata Forneria Marconi as it was on there Italian releases. I also saw them here in L.A. in the late seventies and I thought the were rather sketchey and a little out of sync and tune but still loved them as well as Le Orme ( Felona y Serona), those were the days of Manticore records and Tony Harrington here in L.A.

The answer is Marconi's premium bakery.

RE: [Mellotronists] QUESTIONS

The original version is definitely delicious. I think that MKII was
purchased from the group Beggars Opera. Another tidbit: PFM was recording
the add'l tracks for Photos of Ghosts at Command Studios in London in Jan
'73 while King Crimson was also there recording Larks Tongues in Aspic.

Magical.
