Pinder CDROM Compatibility

Pinder CDROM Compatibility

2002-10-25 by kenmerb@aol.com

Hello all,

I've got a request from someone who is trying to play the Pinder CDROM samples in his sampler, but can't seem to do it.

He' got an EMU ESI 2000 sampler with a SCSI CDROM drive attached. The Pinder CDR is in the AKAI format, and he says that his sampler can't read it. Now he's trying to read the CDR files on his PC's CD drive, but the disk appears empty to the PC (this doesn't surprise me - AKAI is not a PC compatible format like WAV or MP3, I don't think).

So, the question is - how can he get the EMU sampler to read in the Pinder Mellotron samples? Is there a conversion utility available which converts from the AKAI format to a format the ESI 2000 will recognize and read?

I've got a Kurzweil 2600, and it reads the Pinder CDR just fine, even though it is in the AKAI and not Kurzweil format..

I know that there are some people on our list who use this EMU sampler, and many others on the list who use the Pinder CDR. Any suggestions? Our friend says his band is "chomping at the bit" to use the Mellotron samples. Thanks.

He needs to go into the Master page, then into Import, then into Akai,
and it'll find it and read it just fine. If he simply tries to do a
Load, you're right, it won't see the disk.

my asr-10 also has the capability to read/import akai format cdroms,
but i am not familiar with the emu unit in question. the akai cdrom
format does seem to be one of the more common available. some samplers
are better at importing them than others, and some settings may need
tweaking after importing, so be sure to save them again (if possible)
after these adjustments are made to save you some effort next time
you need to play these sounds!

Thanks, everyone, for the replies to the question about using the Pinder Mellotron CDROM with the EMU sampler. I've passed these on to our friend, hopefully he will be kicking out the Mellotron jams soon.

I hate emu now. I have three of their samplers (two esi32's and a 4000, all
turbo'd and maxed and with internal syquests) and an audity. the 4000 let me
down badly this weekend with a scsi board failure, and I just got an e-mail
from emu support in the states saying that no, I can't have the expansion rom
for my audity because they stopped making it, but would I like to think about
trading up to a proteus?
we should count ourselves lucky we have such good support for our mellotrons-
manufacturers just don't seem to give a toss these days. grrr.

duncan disorderly, m400nr1098, never let 'em down yet though it did catch
fire once, and it's still sulking about the trip to america. well, the
samplers will be keeping it company now. I'm going to stock up on ram cards
for the alesis s4 instead.
