Yes, great photos, this may be a silly question, what
are the differences between a Mellotron and a
Chamberlin? They look pretty similar to my non expert
eye.

Think of them as tongue-kissing cousins.

I'll leave a more comprehensive technical explanation to others.

not to crap on your enthusiasm, but...
remember that a one-of-a-kind instrument means one-of-a-kind problems.

like... spare parts?

even if it's made from "stock" parts, the chamberlin is the more rare
beast to begin with.

this is the kind of thing that needs to visit professor jerry for
a long and thorough visit.

all just IMHO of course,

And aren't all these links posted on the group homepage? For the new
enrollees, there's a wealth of information linked to on the group page, the
group doesn't solely exist in the form of these emails. You might find
answers there, or by doing a search in the group message archives. Some of
the old people get grumpy when they have to answer the same question for the
hundredth time. I'm not sayin' who...

So,

What do you want. The Chamberlin that 'might' have been in the room when
Mack the Knife was recorded, ( I have listened at least 50 times and I can't
hear it). Or The Mellotron that was in the room for thousands of happy fans.

Lets see.

Mellotron Lots of spare parts that will most probably NEVER need
replacing... But are available. Provenance irrefutable.

Chamberlin 300 Some indefinable parts that may be available from some
cheesy seller that defines his sale by bad mouthing someone that may have owned
it previously? Last month Vincent Gallo told me that it was still his
machine. Isn't that strange? I see a law suit. For the ignorant. This thing is a
nightmare. I could work on it, so could Jerry. Still, all you end up with is a
liability.

Comments please.
