I was fortunate enough to see Robert Fripp in 1979 at a small club in
beautiful downtown Rockford, IL (home of Cheap Trick no less) perform
with Frippertronics. Wonderful stuff! He was actually pleasant to
talk to as well; which was a nice surprise.

i saw that same "portable mobile" tour too.
in a tiny record shoppe here in suburban philadelphia.
there was maybe 25 people there.
i think it was a weeknight, and was only announced a day or two before
the actual show [pre-internet obviously].

he did seem more... approachable back then, at least in that context.
still on the pompous side, but certainly less hostile than he seemed
to become later on.

it was really cool seeing the frippertronics performed in such an intimate
setting, and you could see the technique up close. quite cool it was.

i will actually be recording some gr300 this sunday.
it's borrowed from gino, who also owns an older and larger
roland guitar synth [can't recall the model, but it's HUGE and heavy]

He also performed at a small record store/head shop in Kansas City, KS
called Caper's Corners, which was owned by Ed Asner's brother.

I saw Robert Fripp in the New York World Trade Center vestibule sometime in the winter of 2001. The concert was free and we had incredible seats. His performance and sound was tremendous!! It was an afternoon concert. I was able to take some good pictures. We all know what happened 7 months later to the Trade Center....

Jim, are you saying what I think you are? That Fripp had something to do with the eventual destruction of the WTC; that his weird karma was like some kind of huge magnet that attracted the forces that led to its horrific end?
Or are you just saying that it was a good show?

Maybe his Fernandes Sustainer caused it.

Here is Fripp's comical endorsement of the Sustainer from the
Fernandes website:

"Since using my Fernandes Sustainer, I have become the life and soul
of any and every party. Guys look at me anxiously from corners of the
room, while fawning bimbettes seek my opinions on the fetishisings of
music's inherent and delineated meanings."

fetishisings? Ya lost me after "fawning bimbettes".

Jeff , were you on drugs ? (of course you were) It was an afternoon
at Plastic Fantastic in Brynn Mawr on a Saturday and Daevid Allen made
me ride with him back and forth from the Hot Club in Phila at 15 mph
the whole way (think he was going 90 in his head). We interrupted the
performance when I made Daevid leave and he just had to say good bye
to Bob (whom he'd never met in person but shared many
acquaintences). Fripp was more approachable then, depending on who he
was hanging with, as now.
