DVD set - Saturday Night Live - 25 Years of Music

DVD set - Saturday Night Live - 25 Years of Music

2007-08-04 by ceccles_ca

A good compilation. The sound quality is surpisingly good

Highlights for me:
Carly Simon You're So Vain 1976 (She was hot)
Elvis Costello Less Than Zero / Radio Radio 1977 (nerd)
The Band The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down 1976
Talking Heads Take Me To The River 1979
Spinal Tap Big Bottom 1984
The Bangles Hazy Shade of Winter 1988 (They were hot)

Paul Simon Diamonds on the Soles of Her Shoes 1986 (With male choir.
brilliant!)

Neil Young Rockin' in the Free World 1989 (The price of the DVD set is
worth it for this performance alone. I've never seen the power of a
band caught on camera like this before!)

Fine Young Cannibals She Drives Me Crazy 1989
R.E.M. Losing My Religion 1991
Eric Clapton Wonderful Tonight 1990
Nirvana Rape Me 1993
Paul McCartney Hey Jude 1993
Alanis Morissette Hand In My Pocket 1995
Garbage Special 1999 (!!!)
Beck Where It's At 1997

Plus lots more...including a pile of classic comedy sketches.

Clay

Tell me they haven't forgotten the Bowie performance of Man Who Sold The
World / TVC15 / Boys Keep Swinging. I haven't seen the show in years,
but to the best of my knowledge, he was the only artist to perform
three songs on the show.

how about the May 1979 performances by Linda Ronstadt and Phoebe Snow?
the second song was "The Married Men" (a Roches tune) with Robert
Fripp on guitar!! strange combination, that!!

Fiona Apple's 90's performance of "Criminal" would be
a good addition, too. It had great Chamberlin
keyboard backup(was that Patrick Warren?).

nope...Jon Brion.

she also played the opening of MTV's new (at the time) Times Square
studio. there was a goodly amount of Chamberlin in that performance,
as well.

They must be planning another DVD set. There's too much missing from
this one. (B52's Stones, Bowie, Zappa...+++)

Hopefully the next SNL music DVD will not have more stuff like Snoop
Doggy Dog, Metallica, Garth Brooks, Backstreet Boys, Ricky Martin.

I think U2 did three songs. The last one was after hours.

My favorite...

Kate Bush with a very scary Paul Shaffer performing "The Man With The Child In His Eyes" and "Them Heavy People."

Host: Eric Idle...

Rocket J. Squirrel: "... we're going to have to think!"
Bullwinkle J. Moose: "There must be an easier way than that."

"Nothing can change the shape of things to come."
...Max Frost

"Any talent that we are born with eventually surfaces as a need"
...Marsha Sinetar
