Good Midi-controller for M-Tron?

Good Midi-controller for M-Tron?

2007-07-20 by johnt0401

Hello everyone, I'm lacking a bit in knowledge on keyboards (Okay, I
know hardly anything about them) and was wondering what kind of midi
controller is good with the M-Tron program? Would one of the cheap $50
ones suffice? (please please please...) or do I have to shell out some
cash for one? Thanks a ton! Here's to owning an actual mellotron
someday....

Virtually any midi keyboard will do as long it has at least 49 keys. It
doesn't have to be expensive.

Any bit of crap will do. The M-Tron doesn't need much. It only requires
35 active keys, does not respond to touch (good) and does not respond to
voice changes either (bad).

Sounds like my wife.

How do you mean *voice changes* ?

You can't change the M-Tron tracks with the keyboard controls. You have
to use a mouse to select from a menu.

You cannot change from one sound (say 'sine wave one' to 'sine wave
two') to another via the keyboard or external software. You have to do
it via the M-Tron program itself.

Why is lack of response to touch a good thing? I use m-tron hosted by FL Studio and find it quite frustrating that I can't find any way of altering the note volume within a track. A sample based touch sensitive tron would at least have one advantage over a real one.

The touch sensitivity of a Mellotron is something that can't be
simulated with a midi keyboard. Probably the best you can do is use
a volume pedal.

Touch sensitivity on mellotron samples actually is an
annoying thing for me- I disable it on my Akai or
Kontakt right away-it just doesn't feel like a
mellotron any more. I agree that a volume pedal is a
more natural (and gradual) way of controlling gain. It
is one thing to want a realistic mellotron sound and
another to want a more natural string or brass sound.
